Eliminating Gender Inequalities Reduces Poverty. How?

In this One Pager, the authors show how gender inequalities in the labour market determine poverty levels. The main question raised by this publication is: which aspect of gender inequalities should be consider priority in the design of public policies that seek to reduce gender inequalities and poverty? Eight countries are analysed: Argetina, Brazil, Chile, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Mexico, Paraguay and Uruguay.

For many years, this issue has been a hot topic which has been discussed in meetings around the world. And yet, very little has been done in LDC. I say LDC and this not only includes countries in Sub Saharan Africa, but also in the AMERICAS. In the 60's most African Countries gained independence, free elections were rising but at a very low level. Today in most African Countries, Latin American and The Caribbean, including the Middle East, the Voices of many women are heard in either rarely or when it is heard it is behind closet. Gender Inequalities are realities that affect women from all walks of life. It is not by nominating women senators or head of organisation that the issue will be eliminating, but, it is my nurturing ideas from day one, giving women the opportunity to go to school, and be respected citizen in their countries. Poverty reduction lies at many level: by doing a general cleansing in minds of many. Informing women that they also have rights. Because, as the world turns, and even as we are in the 21st century, many women think that they do not have right to power, it is important to empower women, to give them the opportunity to express themselves not only in the house of chambers, but in economic issues, in banking issues, and even in shaping the future political ideas of a country. How long it will takes us to understand that matter? Gender is an important issue and should be adressed from all level and women from all walks of life should be informed. Poverty reduction is not the only issue in gender inequalities: there is justice, peace agreement and financial satisfaction.

Hello IPC Folks, I am a fairly regular user of IPC website and publications in my courses. I love the research you put out. I have one small request. Could you go back to your earlier practice and signal the topic of the New IPC publication in the subject line of your message? For example, in this case "Gender Inequality and Poverty" would be sufficient to add to the subject line. Thank you. Gunseli Berik
