The International Poverty Centre (IPC) is a joint project between the United Nations Development Programme
and the Brazilian Government to promote South-South Cooperation on applied poverty research and training. It specializes in analyzing poverty and inequality and offering research-based
policy recommendations on how to reduce them. IPC is directly linked to the Institute for Applied Economic Research (Ipea), which does research for the Brazilian Ministry of Strategic Affairs, and the Bureau for Development Policy, UNDP. More...

Study Tour on Social Policies for Ethnic Minorities

As part of a study tour organized by the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, UNDP Vietnam, and the IPC, 11 representatives from the Vietnamese government were hosted by the IPC in Brasilia from the 26th of November to the 5th of December 2007.
The purpose of the mission was to provide training to the Vietnamese on innovative and successful social protection and development policies for ethnic minorities. The focus was on self-help programmes for the extremely poor. Additionally, the study tour provided an opportunity for an exchange of knowledge and experiences on such policies between Latin America and Southeast Asia.

The Millennium Development Goals: Beyond Averages 2007
The National Statistics Office of Honduras (INE), the UNDP Country Office in Honduras, the Inter-American Development Bank and the International Poverty Centre organized a training workshop to promote the use of disaggregated statistical information to support policy dialogue and accelerate progress towards the MDGs for all population groups in Latin America and the Caribbean. Participants included government officials and UNDP staff from Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama.
